Google has started rolling out its latest Gemini model, Gemini 3.8 Flash, to AI Mode in Search, giving subscribers access to an updated model designed for more advanced tasks and reasoning.
The rollout is initially available in English to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers worldwide, following a similar release approach used for Gemini 3.7 Flash.
Robby Stein, Google’s VP of product, announced the update, saying, “Gemini 3.8 Flash has landed in Search”.
He described Gemini 3.8 Flash as Google’s “most intelligent workhorse model yet”, highlighting improvements over Gemini 3.7 Flash across software engineering, agentic tasks and multi-step reasoning.
Users with eligible Google AI Pro or Ultra subscriptions can access Gemini 3.8 Flash directly within AI Mode. To select the model, users need to tap the (+) icon and choose Gemini 3.8 Flash from the model dropdown menu.
The latest update comes only a couple of weeks after Google Search began using Gemini 3.7 Flash in AI Mode, continuing the company’s rapid pace of model upgrades within Search.
For now, Gemini 3.8 Flash remains limited to paid Google AI subscribers. However, the model could eventually become available to free Search users as Google expands access to newer AI capabilities.
The rollout also reflects Google’s broader push to make AI Mode more capable across complex searches, coding-related queries, agentic tasks and multi-step reasoning. As newer Gemini models are integrated into Search, users can expect AI Mode to gain stronger capabilities over time.
