Dr. Anand Megalingam’s journey from a small rural village in India to becoming a recognised name in the global space-tech ecosystem reflects years of persistence, setbacks, and rebuilding.

Born into a farming family, with his father working as a tractor driver, Anand grew up in financially challenging conditions where opportunities were limited. He reportedly walked nearly 6 km every day to attend school, long before space technology became part of his future ambitions.

Initially, he pursued Computer Science, hoping for a stable career path. However, he later dropped out after struggling to connect with the field. Instead of ending his academic journey, the setback pushed him toward a new direction. He returned to study Aeronautical Engineering, where he excelled academically and graduated as a Gold Medalist with a 9.8 CGPA.

Dr. Anand later founded Space Zone India, which has emerged as one of India’s growing private aerospace ventures. The company gained attention for the RHUMI-H mission, described as India’s first reusable hybrid rocket launched from a mobile platform. RHUMI-1 further strengthened the company’s profile within India’s expanding private space-tech sector.

Today, as Founder and CEO of Space Zone, he continues to lead new projects, including plans for the RHUMI Twin mission aimed at simultaneous rocket launches from Chennai, according to ANI.

His journey also included major setbacks. Reports suggest that a US visa linked to aerospace opportunities was once denied. However, he continued building his work in India. A statement attributed to him during that period later gained attention: “Borders are for people. Innovation has no boundaries.”

Years later, he was selected by the US Department of State for an international leadership initiative involving a small group of global experts. The programme reportedly included exposure to advanced aerospace ecosystems and NASA-linked technical environments.
