Bengaluru-based grocery startup FirstClub is taking a different approach to quick commerce by focusing on product quality and transparency rather than just delivery speed.

The company was founded by Ayyappan R, an XLRI Jamshedpur alumnus and former executive at Flipkart and Myntra. His experience in scaling large consumer businesses led him to identify what he saw as a gap in the fast-growing quick commerce sector.

According to Ayyappan, while platforms offer rapid delivery and extensive product choices, consumers often have limited visibility into product sourcing, quality testing, and health-focused selections. This observation inspired him to build FirstClub around the idea that convenience should not come at the cost of product quality.

The startup follows a curated approach to grocery retail, focusing on products that meet specific quality and health standards. As part of its strategy, FirstClub has banned more than 200 additives from products listed on its platform. It also independently tests categories such as milk, ghee, and edible oils before making them available to customers.

In addition, the platform allows only selected health-focused products, aiming to provide consumers with greater confidence in the groceries they purchase.

The company’s approach has gained investor interest. FirstClub has raised $31 million across 2 funding rounds and has reached a valuation of $120 million. The startup is reportedly in discussions that could significantly increase its valuation in the coming months.

By combining convenience with a stronger focus on product quality, transparency, and health-conscious choices, FirstClub is positioning itself as a differentiated player in India’s rapidly expanding grocery delivery market.
