Cyber Fraud: Dhule Man Falls Victim to ₹55 Lakh Scam Over Fake Petrol Pump Dealership

A 37-year-old man became a victim of fraudsters who lured him with the promise of a gas pump dealership, ultimately swindling him out of Rs 55 lakh.

As reported by the Dhule police, the victim resides in Dhule. In November of the previous year, he posted his contact information on a website that offered details about petrol pump dealerships. Shortly after, he received a call from someone inquiring if he was interested in obtaining a dealership.

The caller provided a link to a registration form and requested that the victim complete it with his details. On November 14, the victim received another call from the scammer, who informed him that he needed to pay registration fees. The fraudster then sent a fake invoice and provided bank account details, instructing the victim to transfer the funds.

Over the course of seven online transactions, the victim sent a total of Rs 55 lakh. However, when he did not receive any further communication from the scammer, he grew suspicious. Upon further investigation, he discovered that he had been deceived.

He subsequently filed a complaint through the cyber crime portal, leading the Dhule police to register a case under sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by impersonation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and section 66D (cheating by impersonation using computer resources) of the Information Technology Act.
