Deoghar police to seize assets, enforce CCA in major cybercrime crackdown

In a decisive move to curb rising cybercrime, Deoghar police have announced stricter enforcement measures targeting repeat offenders, going beyond arrests to include property attachment and legal action under the Crime Control Act (CCA).

The decision was taken after a district-level review meeting chaired by SP Saurabh on Wednesday evening with officials from all police stations. He directed officers to identify habitual cybercriminals and begin a focused crackdown. “Action against active criminals will not be limited to arrests now. We will move towards property seizure and invoke stringent laws like CCA against habitual offenders,” he said.

The move comes amid growing concerns over cyber fraud cases and instances of drug-related activities involving youth. According to the SP, repeated involvement of certain individuals in multiple cases has prompted the need for stronger and more deterrent measures. “Inputs indicate that repeat offenders have been frequently surfacing in multiple cases, prompting the need for tougher, and deterrent action,” he added.

As part of the initiative, police teams have been instructed to conduct physical verification of individuals involved in criminal activities over the past 5 years. Officers will visit their residences to assess current activities and categorise them into 3 groups — A, B, and C — based on their level of involvement.

The SP also confirmed that legal proceedings have already been initiated to confiscate the properties of 8 cybercriminals in the district. Additionally, officers-in-charge have been directed to identify at least 10 active offenders in their respective jurisdictions for similar action.

Apart from tackling cybercrime, officials have been asked to speed up the disposal of pending cases and strengthen overall law and order. Addressing concerns around drug abuse among minors, SP Saurabh urged parents to seek police support. “We are committed to helping children trapped in addiction and will extend all possible support for their rehabilitation,” he said.
