The Convergence Foundation names Ankur Dhawan as CTO to drive technology and AI initiatives

Ankur Dhawan has joined The Convergence Foundation as Chief Technology Officer, bringing more than 20 years of experience across technology, product, business and operations leadership. His appointment comes as the organisation looks to strengthen technology and AI-led solutions for large-scale social impact.

Before joining The Convergence Foundation, Dhawan served as Chief Product & Technology Officer at upGrad. He has also held leadership roles at upGrad Study Abroad, Buddy4Study, PropTiger.com and Pine Labs, along with earlier experience at BCG.

Across his career, Dhawan has focused on scaling technology-led businesses, digital transformation, AI, automation and data-driven decision-making. His experience includes consolidating technology and product teams, improving operational efficiency, building AI-powered solutions and establishing businesses that reached multimillion-dollar revenues.

At upGrad, he led initiatives focused on improving product and technology infrastructure, reducing costs and strengthening customer engagement. Earlier, as President of upGrad Study Abroad, he built the business from the ground up and developed it into a multimillion-dollar operation.

Dhawan has also worked across education, real estate and fintech, leading technology and digital transformation initiatives across these sectors. His approach focuses on keeping customers at the centre of product development and business strategy.

Announcing his new role, Dhawan said the move marks a return to the social impact sector after 6 years of building and scaling products in the edtech industry.

He said the growing role of technology and AI presents an opportunity for the development sector to improve efficiency and create frugal, scalable solutions capable of delivering impact at population scale.

In his new role at The Convergence Foundation, Dhawan will work with leaders, ecosystem partners and innovators to develop technology-driven solutions focused on sustainable and large-scale social impact.

His experience across technology, product innovation, business strategy and AI positions him to contribute to the organisation’s technology agenda as it explores new ways to use digital solutions for development.
