Claude AI Gets a Voice: Anthropic Rolls Out Spoken Conversations in Beta

Anthropic is launching a voice feature for its Claude AI bot. Currently in beta, this feature allows mobile users to engage in voice conversations with Claude. This marks another advancement for the company in its rivalry with other AI providers.

The new Voice Mode facilitates fully spoken interactions with Claude through the mobile app. It is now available for English conversations and is powered by Claude Sonnet 4, with multilingual support expected soon.

Voice interaction with five distinct voices

Users can select from five different voices and alternate between text and speech during their conversations. Afterward, they receive a transcript and a summary of the discussion.

As stated on Anthropic’s support page, Voice Mode simplifies using Claude when your hands are occupied but your mind is free. Users can discuss documents and images while key points are shown on the screen throughout the conversation.

Limitations and usage restrictions of Claude Voice

However, the voice feature comes with limitations. Conversations count towards the standard usage limit, which is 20 to 30 conversations for free users. Only paying subscribers can utilize the Google Workspace connector that enables Voice Mode to access Google Calendar and Gmail. Integration with Google Docs is limited to Enterprise customers.

Earlier this year, Anthropic CEO Mike Krieger confirmed in an interview with the Financial Times that the company was developing voice features. At that time, discussions were ongoing with Amazon and AI startup ElevenLabs regarding potential collaborations.
