Chennai mayor files cybercrime complaint over alleged misuse of her image

Greater Chennai Corporation Mayor R Priya has approached the police and the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing over an alleged online harassment incident involving an X account named ‘Yaazh Mynthan’. Her complaint alleges that the account shared an obscene post using her image, along with derogatory captions and sexually coloured remarks.

In her complaint filed on Tuesday, Priya said the account, @YarlMyn, had made false claims about her character. She alleged that she had repeatedly faced harassment and digital abuse because of her position in public life.

Priya has sought an investigation into whether the account was part of a coordinated effort by political opponents to target her.

Highlighting her identity as a Dalit woman, the mayor also called for the incident to be examined in the wider context of harassment faced by Scheduled Caste (SC) women in public life.

She questioned the TVK government over the online abuse and asked Chief Minister Vijay whether it was fair to allow ‘virtual abusers’ to operate under the label of ‘TVK virtual warriors.’
