OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot service is currently facing a major global outage, with a surge in user reports of issues from various regions. DownDetector, a site that monitors service status worldwide, indicated spikes in user problems related to the chatbot on both the web and app, as well as login difficulties.
At the time of this writing, India has reported nearly 800 outage cases. Simultaneously, the US has logged close to 1100 complaints, and over 1,450 users in the UK have indicated problems with the AI chatbot. Approximately 90% of the reported issues are with the web version of the chatbot, while less than 10% are related to the app. Additionally, there have been concerns regarding login and API functionalities.
OpenAI has stated that it is looking into these issues.
OpenAI confirmed the problems with a notice on its status page, which reads, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across listed services. We are investigating.”
The company noted that the issues have persisted for 3 hours and have impacted services such as APIs, ChatGPT, and Sora — its AI video creation chatbot.
In a follow-up message, OpenAI says that are elevated error rates on Sora.Â
“We are continuing to investigate the issue for the listed services,” the company said, noting that it is causing “degraded performance”.
