Cadence and Nvidia join forces to speed up robot training using AI and simulation

In a significant step for the robotics industry, Cadence Design Systems and Nvidia have announced a collaboration to advance artificial intelligence for robots by combining simulation and AI technologies.

The partnership focuses on integrating Cadence’s physics engines with Nvidia’s AI models. These physics engines are designed to simulate how real-world materials behave, helping generate the training data needed for robots to learn in virtual environments.

“We’re working with you across the board on robotic systems,” said Jensen Huang at a conference hosted by Cadence Design Systems in Santa Clara, California.

Training robots in simulations is faster than real-world training. However, it depends heavily on high-quality data, which must be created using advanced software tools. The collaboration aims to reduce the time it takes for robots to perform practical tasks.

“The more accurate (generated training data) is, the better the model will be,” said Anirudh Devgan.

Following the announcement, Cadence shares rose by more than 4%.

Alongside the partnership, Cadence also introduced a new AI agent designed to handle tasks typically performed by human engineers in chip design. Earlier this year, the company launched an agent focused on the initial stages of chip design, where circuits are created using code-like languages.

The newly announced agent will manage later stages, including translating circuit designs into physical layouts on silicon. This system will be available on Google Cloud.

“We help build AI systems, and then those AI systems can help improve the design process,” Devgan added.

The collaboration highlights how AI is being used not only to power robotics but also to transform the way advanced computing systems are designed.
