In a major boost to India’s defence manufacturing sector, Bharat Forge has partnered with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish the country’s first private facility for the repair and development of marine gas turbines in Visakhapatnam.

The upcoming facility will be spread across 80 acres and is being developed as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative focused on strengthening naval self-reliance. The center will also be strategically located near important naval bases, including INS Eksila.

The project will be executed in 2 phases. The first phase will include a repair and overhaul complex equipped with advanced restoration laboratories. The second phase will focus on setting up a dedicated manufacturing hall for producing marine gas turbines within India.

Apart from boosting domestic defence production, the facility is expected to generate nearly 750 jobs. The center will also have the capability to provide services to foreign navies in the future.

“These projects will cater to all three Services and strengthen our efforts to make India self-reliant in defense manufacturing. Andhra Pradesh is set to emerge as a major hub of aerospace and defense production.”

Bharat Forge’s Amit Kalyani also highlighted that the project will help reduce India’s dependence on imported marine engines and strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
