Balaji Kidambi Mani rises to Whole-Time Director and CFO at Ashok Leyland after 32 years with the company

This promotion recognizes a distinguished career spanning more than 32 years with one of India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers.

The appointment marks a significant milestone for a leader who has grown within the organization and contributed extensively to its financial strategy, corporate governance, treasury operations, investor relations, business finance, and capital management initiatives. His elevation reflects the company’s confidence in his leadership as it continues to navigate growth and transformation in the automotive sector.

Currently serving as Chief Financial Officer, a role he assumed in 2024, Balaji has been responsible for overseeing Ashok Leyland’s financial strategy and performance during a period of significant industry change. Prior to becoming CFO, he served as Deputy CFO, where his responsibilities expanded to include mergers and acquisitions, business finance, indirect taxation, exports finance, and product development finance, helping strengthen the company’s long-term financial framework.

Earlier, as Senior Vice President – Finance, he led several critical functions, including budgeting, budgetary controls, management information systems (MIS), investor relations, pricing, product cost engineering, business support, centralized receivables, and centralized payables. His leadership played an important role in enhancing financial discipline, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making across the organization.

Throughout his tenure, Balaji steadily advanced through a series of senior finance leadership positions, including Vice President – Finance, General Manager – Finance, and Deputy General Manager – Finance. In these roles, he expanded his expertise across financial planning, performance management, business support, and corporate finance functions.

As Head of Budgets, MIS, Costing, and Investor Relations, he contributed significantly to strengthening financial reporting systems, cost management processes, and stakeholder engagement initiatives. His work helped improve transparency and support informed decision-making across the business.

Earlier in his career, Balaji led Ashok Leyland’s Treasury function, managing foreign exchange operations, institutional finance, sales finance, and banking relationships. His experience in treasury management provided valuable insights into capital allocation, liquidity management, and financial risk oversight.

He began his journey with Ashok Leyland as an Audit Executive, conducting audits across manufacturing facilities, warehouses, regional offices, and sales operations. This early exposure helped build a strong foundation in governance, compliance, financial controls, and risk management.

Balaji’s progression from Audit Executive to Whole-Time Director and CFO reflects a remarkable journey of leadership, expertise, and long-term commitment to the organization. With extensive experience across treasury, finance transformation, investor relations, taxation, mergers and acquisitions, cost engineering, and strategic planning, he is well positioned to support Ashok Leyland’s next phase of growth and innovation.
