Apple may bring AI-based automatic tab management to Safari with iOS 27 updates

A new artificial intelligence-powered feature could soon change how users manage tabs on Apple’s Safari browser. Reports suggest the company has started testing an automatic tab grouping system that may arrive with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 updates expected to be unveiled during WWDC 2027 in June.

The upcoming feature, reportedly called “Organise Tabs,” is designed to automatically sort browser tabs into relevant categories based on browsing activity and user intent. The update is expected to build on Safari’s existing Tab Groups feature, which currently allows users to manually organise tabs for work, personal use, or other activities.

The new system is said to work similarly to tab management tools available on competing browsers. However, instead of manually creating groups, users may be able to let Safari identify patterns and organise tabs automatically using AI-based technology.

According to reports, the feature will appear through the centre-top tab navigation button in Safari. Users are also expected to get the option to switch between manual and automatic grouping modes. When enabled, Safari could display a message saying that “tabs will group into topics you browse.”

The report further claimed that traces of the feature were previously found in leaked code, indicating that Apple may already be testing AI integration for Safari’s tab management system.

Apart from Safari upgrades, Apple is also reportedly working on improvements for visionOS 27, the operating system for the Vision Pro headset. The update is expected to focus on performance enhancements, bug fixes, and feature parity with iOS 27.

Reports added that visionOS 27 may include new AI-powered editing tools, upgraded Siri capabilities, and several additional enhancements expected across Apple’s next-generation operating systems.
