Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step towards strengthening India’s digital infrastructure with the launch of a large-scale artificial intelligence data centre project.
Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a $15 billion AI data centre being developed by Google near Visakhapatnam. The upcoming facility is planned with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing AI and cloud ecosystem.
The project is expected to become one of the largest AI data centres in India, offering advanced AI cloud infrastructure along with large-scale data storage capabilities. According to an official statement, the development will span 600 acres across Tarluvada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli villages, with support from private partners.
This initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to build a strong digital backbone. Andhra Pradesh aims to develop a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem with a total capacity of around 6.5 gigawatts in the long term. The move is expected to position the state as a key hub for data infrastructure and AI-driven growth in India.
The project highlights increasing investments in AI infrastructure and reflects the growing importance of large-scale data centres in supporting next-generation technologies.
