Amul launches AI platform Sarlaben to support dairy farmers in Gujarat

In a step toward using technology at the grassroots level, Amul has introduced an artificial intelligence platform named Sarlaben to provide round-the-clock support to dairy farmers across Gujarat.

The initiative is designed to offer timely and reliable assistance on animal husbandry and dairy farming. The launch is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of using AI to empower women milk producers with faster access to information and support.

The Sarlaben platform will serve more than 36,00,000 milk producers, most of them women, spread across over 18,500 villages in Gujarat. These farmers contribute over 350,00,000 liters of milk every day and form the backbone of Amul’s dairy operations. The launch marks a major step in digitising the cooperative dairy movement in the state.

Sarlaben has been developed on one of India’s largest cooperative IT systems. It is integrated with Amul’s Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) and the Pashudhan app. The platform offers personalised guidance on cattle health, vaccination schedules, medical treatment, feeding, and breeding practices. It also provides information on government schemes and subsidies that are relevant to dairy farmers.

Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Jayen Mehta, MD of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), said, “Amul AI is about taking dependable, verified information directly to the farmer — instantly and in a language they are comfortable with.” He added that by using decades of structured data and linking it with operational systems, the platform will help farmers make timely decisions that can improve animal productivity and income.

Farmers can access Amul AI through the Amul Farmer mobile app, which has been downloaded by over 10,00,000 users. The platform will also support voice calls for farmers using feature phones or landlines. Gujarati will be the primary language of interaction. The initiative is expected to strengthen farmer engagement at the grassroots level of Gujarat’s dairy economy.
