India’s push to build large-scale AI infrastructure is gaining momentum, with AM Intelligence placing a binding order for around 9,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin systems. The AI infrastructure company plans to deploy the systems at its first AI data centre in Hyderabad.
AM Intelligence is backed by the founders of renewable energy producer Greenko Group. The company plans to bring the servers online next year as the first phase of a planned 1GW compute-as-a-service platform spanning India, the US, Finland and Malaysia.
The Hyderabad facility is being designed to handle demanding AI workloads, including trillion-parameter models and next-generation agentic AI applications. The company plans to initially offer 200MW of AI compute capacity as part of a wider project involving more than $8 billion in capital expenditure.
The facility is expected to serve major cloud service providers, AI labs and organisations developing Indian AI models. The initial capacity has reportedly already been purchased by a US customer, although the buyer has not been identified.
AM Intelligence plans to provide computing capacity across India, the US, Finland and Malaysia. India’s undersea cable connectivity could allow US companies to access AI computing resources in India with latency of around 300 milliseconds.
Renewable energy will also play a key role in the company’s strategy. AM Intelligence has access to Greenko’s renewable energy infrastructure, which it says can help keep AI computing costs competitive.
“In global token economics, energy prices play a huge part,” Mahesh Kolli, founder and president of Greenko, was quoted as saying. The company also claims to be among the lowest-cost AI computing infrastructure providers globally.
Beyond Hyderabad, AM Intelligence plans to expand its AI data centre capacity to 5GW by 2030 across India, Europe and other markets. The expansion is expected to be financed through a combination of debt and equity.
