Karwa is expected to take over as CEO of AJIO, while current CEO Vineeth Nair is likely to move into a broader strategic position within Reliance Retail’s fashion business.

“Vineeth Nair is likely to take on an expanded role within the fashion vertical, which may also involve responsibilities related to Reliance Brands. While Sandeep Karwa will head AJIO, Nair is expected to remain involved at a strategic level,” a source said.

Sources also stated that Karwa has already been leading the company for the past few weeks.

Before joining AJIO, Karwa served as the country head for Taiwan at Coupang. Earlier, he spent nearly 11 years at Flipkart, where he last worked as Vice President of the Flipkart Ads platform. He has also served on the boards of Walmart India, Wildcraft India, and Arvind Fashions Limited.

Queries sent to Reliance and Karwa on Tuesday did not receive a response till the publication of the report.

A retail industry report also stated that Nair will now oversee the wider fashion and lifestyle business for Reliance Retail.

The leadership change comes as Reliance Retail sharpens its focus on digital fashion commerce amid increasing competition from Myntra, Nykaa Fashion, Tata CLiQ Fashion, and several fast-fashion platforms.

AJIO continues to remain one of Reliance Retail’s major fashion commerce platforms, offering mass-premium labels, private brands, and international fashion partnerships.
