International travel is set to become more affordable for Airtel postpaid users as the telecom operator introduces 1 free international roaming trip every year across its postpaid plans. The benefit is designed to reduce the additional cost of roaming, which usually requires separate packs for data, calls and SMS.
Airtel free international roaming benefit
Starting October 8, every Airtel postpaid SIM will be eligible for 1 free international roaming trip each year. The benefit applies to individual as well as family postpaid plans. Each member of an eligible family plan will receive their own roaming allowance instead of sharing a single benefit.
The complimentary pack includes 5GB mobile data, 60 minutes of calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS. The benefits remain valid for 5 days. Airtel said users can activate the pack when they actually need it, instead of its validity starting automatically with their postpaid subscription.
Airtel’s individual postpaid plan starts at Rs. 499 per month. Family plans include the Rs. 749 plan for 2 SIMs, Rs. 1,049 and Rs. 1,249 plans for 3 and 4 SIMs, respectively. The operator also offers Rs. 1,449 and Rs. 1,799 plans for 4 and 5 SIMs, respectively.
All 6 plans include 1 free international roaming trip per SIM every year.
Along with the roaming benefit, Airtel users get unlimited data and calling, as well as spam and fraud prevention features. Additional subscriptions vary by plan. The Rs. 499 plan includes Xstream Play Premium and Google One, while higher-priced family plans add services such as Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Apple Music, Apple iCloud+ and Netflix.
Existing Airtel customers on older postpaid and prepaid plans can upgrade through the Airtel App or by visiting an Airtel Store.
The move follows a similar announcement from Vodafone Idea (Vi), which offers free international roaming on select prepaid, postpaid and enterprise plans. Vi’s benefit covers more than 170 countries and provides eligible users with up to 3 international trips per year, depending on their plan. Its eligible postpaid plans start at Rs. 501.
