Mastercard introduces Agent Pay in the UAE with its first global transaction outside the United States

Mastercard has introduced Agent Pay in the United Arab Emirates, marking the first transaction for this service outside the United States. The launch comes at a time when artificial intelligence is changing how people shop, pay and connect.

During the pilot phase in the UAE, Mastercard is working with Majid Al Futtaim, a leader in shopping malls, communities, retail and leisure across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and with the fintech company Dataiera.

The launch event was attended by His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Mastercard Chief Executive Officer Michael Miebach and Ahmed Galal Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Holding.

Once the service is launched, cardholders will be able to use their artificial intelligence agent to search, discover and make payments through Mastercard Agent Pay. This includes simple booking of theatre tickets at VOX Cinemas.

His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama said the UAE, under its leadership, has become a global centre for adopting and supporting advanced technologies and initiatives that improve well being, strengthen global competitiveness and enhance its position as a leading destination for world class artificial intelligence applications.

He added that the UAE has set a new global benchmark in the use of artificial intelligence to simplify daily life. He said the country continues to advance innovations that improve the efficiency, reliability and quality of digital interactions. He noted that the introduction of the artificial intelligence agent in payment solutions is an important milestone that opens new opportunities for the growth of the UAE’s digital economy.

Dimitrios Dosis, President for Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa at Mastercard, said:
“As AI becomes a trusted companion in people’s digital lives, payments must evolve to match its intelligence with integrity. Mastercard Agent Pay ensures that agentic commerce is built on transparency, consent and security, empowering consumers and businesses to engage confidently in this new era of commerce.”

Ahmed Galal Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim, said:
“As a pioneer in retail and lifestyle innovation, Majid Al Futtaim sees AI as a transformative force shaping the future of commerce and human interaction. Collaborating with Mastercard on Agent Pay allows us to explore how intelligence and integrity can coexist in digital transactions creating systems that prioritise trust, transparency and consumer confidence. This collaboration is not just about convenience; it is about setting a framework for responsible innovation that redefines how people shop, pay and engage in a connected world.”

Mastercard continues to support the UAE government in its efforts to promote secure commerce, advance digital transformation and lead global artificial intelligence adoption. This shared commitment led to the launch of Mastercard’s Center for Advanced AI and Cyber Technology in Dubai in twenty twenty three, in collaboration with the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Office. The development further strengthens the UAE’s position as a global innovation hub.
