Godrej Aerospace delivers first human-rated L110 Vikas engine to ISRO for Gaganyaan mission

Godrej Aerospace, the aerospace division of Godrej Enterprises Group, has delivered the first human-rated L110 stage Vikas engine to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its ambitious Gaganyaan project. The delivery marks a major milestone in India’s journey towards launching its first human spaceflight mission.

The first uncrewed test flight under the Gaganyaan programme is scheduled for early next year. ISRO aims to send the first group of Indian astronauts into Earth’s orbit aboard a home-built rocket by 2027.

Maneck Behramkamdin, Executive Vice President and Business Head of Godrej Enterprises Group’s Aerospace business, said, “This achievement reaffirms our long-standing partnership with ISRO and Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), and showcases our capability to deliver mission-critical technology that strengthens India’s leadership in space exploration.”

Godrej Aerospace has been an integral part of India’s space journey for more than four decades, supplying high-precision engines and components for several landmark missions, including Chandrayaan and NISAR.

The Gaganyaan mission will use the human-rated LVM-3 rocket, which will carry the crew module containing Indian astronauts into orbit and ensure their safe return to Earth. The human-rated Vikas engine, developed and manufactured with rigorous safety standards, will power a crucial stage of this rocket.

Behramkamdin further added, “This is not just a milestone for Godrej Enterprises Group, but also a matter of immense national pride. Contributing to India’s first human spaceflight programme is both an honour and a responsibility that we carry with the highest commitment.”

The collaboration between ISRO and Godrej underscores India’s growing capability to design, build, and test complex space systems domestically. It also highlights the crucial role of public-private partnerships in advancing India’s space exploration goals.

As preparations intensify for the Gaganyaan mission, the delivery of the L110 stage Vikas engine represents a significant step forward in India’s efforts to become one of the few nations capable of human spaceflight.
