Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is set to outline its plans for artificial intelligence chips and systems during its financial analyst day at the Nasdaq in New York. The event marks a key moment for the company as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the fast-growing AI chip market, currently dominated by rival Nvidia.
AMD has been steadily gaining ground in the central processor business, challenging Intel, and is now turning its focus to data centre and AI technologies. The company’s next-generation MI400 series of AI chips, expected to launch in 2026, will feature several variants designed for both scientific computing and generative AI applications.
Alongside the MI400 series, AMD is preparing to introduce a complete server rack system, similar to Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72, aimed at delivering integrated AI performance solutions. During the event, AMD’s business leaders are expected to present long-term projections and financial forecasts, covering not only AI but also its PC, gaming, and programmable chip divisions.
Recently, the Santa Clara-based firm forecasted fourth-quarter revenue that exceeded market expectations, fuelled by increasing demand for AI chips. Executives expressed optimism about the company’s growth prospects, citing strong momentum in the data centre CPU segment, driven by global AI adoption.
This year’s analyst day is AMD’s first since 2022 and will begin at 1 p.m. EST (1800 GMT).
A significant part of AMD’s recent success comes from its multi-year partnership with OpenAI, signed in October. The agreement is expected to generate over $100 billion in revenue for AMD over four years, with contributions from OpenAI and other customers. As part of the deal, OpenAI will receive warrants allowing it to purchase up to a 10% stake in AMD.
The OpenAI collaboration has provided AMD with a strong anchor client in the AI ecosystem, as the company works to capture a larger share of the booming AI chip market currently led by Nvidia.
