Airtel Announces Nationwide Rollout of Advanced 5G Network

Airtel is preparing to launch its advanced 5G service that promises internet speeds up to twice as fast as before. The telecom company has begun rolling out a dual-mode 5G network, which will allow users to experience both Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) 5G connections. The announcement was made during Airtel’s recent earnings call, where the company confirmed that this new network will soon be available across the country.

Dual-mode 5G network rollout
Airtel’s Managing Director, Gopal Vittal, shared that the company has started shifting its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) customers to the new dual-mode 5G network. This transition aims to improve connectivity and deliver better speeds for Airtel AirFiber users. Currently, the service is being deployed in 13 regions, with plans to expand to more areas soon.

Airtel initially introduced 5G services in 2022 using the NSA model, which worked alongside its existing 4G infrastructure. This allowed users to enjoy faster internet without major network changes. The new SA network, however, operates independently of 4G and offers improved speed, latency, and reliability.

Meanwhile, competitor Reliance Jio already operates a nationwide SA 5G network, which does not rely on older technology. With Airtel now joining this space, users can expect stronger competition and improved internet experiences across India.

Possible price hike ahead
There is also speculation that Airtel may increase its recharge plan prices as early as December. Vodafone-Idea is reportedly considering a similar move. Industry reports suggest that telecom companies are aiming to boost their Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). The last price hike was in July last year, when all major private telecom operators increased plan rates by 20 to 25 percent. However, no official confirmation has been made yet regarding a new price revision.

Airtel’s upcoming dual-mode 5G rollout signals a major step forward for the company as it continues to expand its high-speed network and enhance digital connectivity for users nationwide.
