Google has expanded its Gemini deep research feature, allowing it to draw information directly from Gmail, Drive and Chat while generating research reports. This update brings the model closer to real workplace use by letting it analyse user content along with the web.
The company described this capability as one of the most requested additions to deep research. The feature is designed to create detailed research outputs instead of providing short answers. It begins by forming a step by step research plan and then runs multiple web searches. Users can refine the final report with more instructions or export it into a Google Doc or an AI generated podcast.
Google explained how this new connection between deep research and its workspace tools can support real projects. It said that teams can start a market analysis by allowing deep research to review their early brainstorming files, email conversations and project plans. It can also create a competitor report that compares public information with internal strategies, spreadsheets and team chat discussions.
When users select deep research in the Gemini prompt bar, they can choose which sources the model should use. The options include Google Search, Gmail, Drive and Chat. This means the tool can use emails from Gmail, documents, slides, sheets and PDFs from Drive and chat history from Google Chat as context while working.
The feature is currently available only on desktop. Google confirmed that support for mobile devices will begin rolling out in the coming days.
