OnePlus 15 Unveiled as First Smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 15 at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, confirming that it will be the first device to feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

The company also revealed that the OnePlus 15 will debut its in-house DetailMax image engine, which uses “advanced algorithms and powerful processors to capture images that feel breathtakingly clear and truly real.” This marks a step forward in the company’s focus on camera innovation.

In terms of design, OnePlus appears to be moving away from its signature circular camera module, opting instead for a vertically aligned camera island with three lenses. The overall look resembles the OnePlus 13s, complete with the familiar logo at the centre of the back panel.

The device will feature a display with a 165Hz refresh rate, although it is not yet clear if this specification will extend to the global version. Out of the box, the phone is expected to run OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16 and could receive five years of operating system updates and six years of security patches.

Industry speculation suggests that the OnePlus 15 will be powered by a 7,300mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, offering 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Camera expectations include a triple 50MP setup with a primary shooter, an ultrawide lens and a telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom.

The company has not confirmed the launch timeline, but reports indicate that the device will first be introduced in China, followed by a global rollout.

Alongside OnePlus, smartphone makers such as iQOO, Vivo and Xiaomi also announced plans to release devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
