Meta has rolled out a new feature called Vibes, a short-form video feed built entirely around AI-generated clips. Available in the Meta AI app and on meta.ai, the feed functions like TikTok or Instagram Reels — except every video is produced with artificial intelligence.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch in an Instagram post featuring examples of the new format. One video showed fuzzy creatures hopping across cubes, another displayed a cat kneading dough, and a third depicted an ancient Egyptian woman taking a selfie against the backdrop of ancient architecture.
Meta says Vibes will combine AI-generated videos from both creators and regular users, with the feed becoming personalised over time through recommendations. Users can generate clips from scratch or remix videos they encounter, adding visuals, music, or style changes before publishing. Videos can be shared on the Vibes feed, sent via direct messages, or cross-posted to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels.
Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang revealed that the company has partnered with Midjourney and Black Forest Labs for the early version of Vibes, while it continues to develop its own models.
Despite the launch, user reactions have been sceptical. Comments on Zuckerberg’s post included: “gang nobody wants this,” “Bro’s posting ai slop on his own app,” and “I think I speak for everyone when I say: What….?” Critics argue that the feature adds more AI-generated “slop” to already crowded social platforms at a time when companies like YouTube are moving to limit low-value, AI-driven content.
The decision appears unusual given Meta’s earlier guidance that creators should focus on “authentic storytelling” rather than producing short videos offering little originality.
The introduction of Vibes follows Meta’s push to accelerate its artificial intelligence efforts. In June, the company reorganised its AI division, creating Meta Superintelligence Labs and splitting operations into four groups focusing on foundation models, research, product integration, and infrastructure. The move comes amid pressure to keep pace with rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind.
