Hackers Steal Data of 8,000 Children from Kido Nursery Chain

Cybercriminals have reportedly stolen the personal information of around 8,000 children from the Kido nursery chain, which operates 18 sites across London along with centres in the United States, India and China.

According to reports, the stolen data includes names, photographs and addresses of the children. The hackers have also claimed to hold details of parents and carers, as well as safeguarding notes. In addition, they have allegedly contacted some parents directly by phone as part of their ransom demands.

Kido has not yet issued a public statement or confirmed the claims. An employee at one of the nurseries confirmed they had been informed of a data breach.

The Metropolitan Police said they received a referral on Thursday “following reports of a ransomware attack on a London-based organisation”. They added that enquiries remain in the early stages and no arrests have been made.

The Information Commissioner’s Office confirmed that Kido International has reported the incident and that the matter is under assessment.

This incident comes amid a wave of cyber-attacks targeting large organisations. Earlier this year, the Co-op reported an £80m loss linked to an attempted hack, while Jaguar Land Rover was forced to suspend production at its factories after attackers infiltrated its computer systems, disrupting operations and vehicle sales.

As investigations into the Kido breach continue, concerns are growing about the increasing scale and impact of cybercrime targeting both businesses and families.
