Uttar Pradesh sets vision to lead India in AI and deep technology by 2047

The Uttar Pradesh government has set an ambitious goal to position the state as a global hub for artificial intelligence, deep technology, and digital innovation by 2047. The plan is part of the Viksit UP-2047 vision, which aims to transform the state into a leading technology-driven economy.

According to the government, these emerging sectors “will drive economic growth, create opportunities for youth, and showcase a new, self-reliant UP powered by technology and innovation.”

Significant progress has already been made in digital education. Before 2017, only 13.3 per cent of schools in the state had computers, a figure that has now increased to 40.20 per cent. In addition, 25,790 council schools are equipped with smart classes, 880 block resource centres have ICT labs, and more than 2.61 lakh tablets have been provided to teachers. Through the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme, over 50 lakh students have received tablets and smartphones to promote digital learning.

The state government plans to develop AI cities in Lucknow and Kanpur by 2030, while NCR cities and Lucknow are being prepared as prime destinations for Global Capability Centres. To encourage entrepreneurship, innovation incubation centres will be established across every division. Uttar Pradesh also aims to become a national leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outlined the broader vision, saying, “By 2047, UP should be a recognised centre for deep technology. This will include AI, quantum computing, blockchain, advanced robotics, biotechnology, gene editing, nanotechnology, space technology and green technology. These sectors will attract investment and create jobs and position UP as the engine of India’s digital revolution.”

The state will also focus on expanding digital infrastructure in tier two and tier three cities, building hubs for cybersecurity and data protection, and driving a fivefold increase in software exports by 2030.

“Artificial intelligence, deep technology, and emerging sectors will be the driving force behind our USD 6 trillion economy goal by 2047. Under Viksit UP-2047, initiatives such as AI cities in Lucknow and Kanpur, semiconductor and EV manufacturing hubs, global data centres, innovation incubators, and cybersecurity hubs will take UP to new heights. They will equip our youth with globally competitive skills and jobs, while sustaining 16% annual GDP growth,” the Chief Minister added.
