Fiverr International, the Israel-based online services marketplace, announced it will lay off 30 per cent of its workforce as part of a major restructuring effort to become an AI-driven company. The move will impact 250 employees, a spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
The company had 762 employees as of December last year. The job cuts are aimed at streamlining operations and accelerating the use of artificial intelligence to automate systems across the platform.
In a letter to employees, CEO Micha Kaufman said, “We are launching a transformation for Fiverr, to turn Fiverr into an AI-first company that’s leaner, faster, with a modern AI-focused tech infrastructure, a smaller team, each with substantially greater productivity, and far fewer management layers.”
The restructuring will see Fiverr invest heavily in AI to modernise its systems, reduce dependency on manual processes and increase productivity across teams.
Fiverr’s decision follows a trend among global technology companies such as Salesforce, which have also invested in AI agents and machine learning to automate customer service and logistics functions.
The company operates a digital marketplace that connects freelancers with businesses and individuals looking for services such as graphic design, editing and programming. Much of the platform is already automated, with processes for ordering, delivery and payments requiring minimal employee involvement.
Fiverr, which began with services priced at $5, has since expanded its offerings to include subscription-based models and higher-value services. Despite the layoffs, the company stated that the cuts will not significantly affect day-to-day business operations in the near term.
Fiverr also confirmed that a portion of the savings from the restructuring will be reinvested into the business to strengthen its AI-first strategy and expand its capabilities.
