Kuwait Ministry of Interior Arrests Cybercrime Gang and 178 Law Violators

The Kuwait Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of an international cybercrime gang of African nationalities accused of carrying out cyberattacks targeting telecom towers and banks in Kuwait. The case began when the Communications Authority reported cyberattacks on communication networks, prompting security teams to launch search and investigation operations.

Investigations revealed that the attacks were conducted using advanced electronic devices to infiltrate networks and send large volumes of fraudulent messages impersonating banks, with the aim of stealing account data and funds. Security teams traced the suspicious signals to a vehicle in Salmiya. The driver attempted to flee, colliding with several vehicles before being apprehended after strong resistance.

A search of the vehicle uncovered sophisticated electronic equipment and technical tools. The suspect admitted to working with an accomplice to hack telecommunications networks and send fraudulent messages pretending to be banks and telecom companies. Follow-up operations led to the arrest of the second suspect, and a search of their residence uncovered additional devices and tools used to analyse stolen data. Both suspects and the seized items were referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.

In a separate operation, the Kuwait Ministry of Interior, through the General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations, arrested 178 violators and wanted persons during a large-scale security campaign across all governorates. The operation was carried out by the Violators Follow-up and Inspection Departments, in line with the directives of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and uphold the law.

The campaign focused on densely populated areas to locate individuals violating residence and labour laws. The ministry stressed that legal accountability will apply to both workers and employers, with no leniency towards any violators.
