JSW Infra Bags ₹740 Crore Kolkata Port Deal, Nears 1 Million TEU Capacity

JSW Infrastructure Limited has secured a letter of award from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority for a major port project at the Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata. The project involves the reconstruction of berth 8 and mechanisation of berths 7 and 8 and will be developed under the public-private partnership model on a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer basis.

This ₹740 crore project comes with a 30-year concession period and is in line with JSW Infrastructure’s broader strategy to grow its terminal footprint under the central government’s port privatisation drive. The project is expected to improve the port’s container handling efficiency and overall capacity.

JSW Infrastructure plans to begin operations during the construction phase itself by tapping into the strong cargo volumes in Kolkata. The construction is expected to take two years to complete. Once fully operational, the project will significantly increase handling capacity and improve operational capabilities.

On the western coast, the company currently operates the New Mangalore Container Terminal with a capacity of 0.2 million TEUs, which is being expanded to 0.35 million TEUs. With the addition of the Kolkata port project, JSW Infrastructure’s total container handling capacity will move close to one million TEUs, strengthening its position in India’s port container sector.

Shares of JSW Infrastructure Ltd closed at ₹305.20, showing a marginal decline of ₹0.30 or 0.098 percent on the BSE.
