Thales, in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), has launched cortAIx SG, the company’s first global artificial intelligence (AI) incubator hub in Asia. This move is part of Thales’ effort to expand its global AI programme and boost AI research and industrialisation in the region.
cortAIx SG will act as a major accelerator for Thales, identifying key challenges and delivering impactful AI solutions for the company’s business operations in Singapore and across Asia. The centre will focus on creating trusted AI systems for complex and mission-critical environments, strengthening Thales’ innovation and R&D footprint in Singapore.
With this initiative, Thales aims to position Singapore as a hub for AI leadership, aligned with the country’s National AI Strategy. Key projects will focus on improving decision support, increasing operational efficiency, and advancing human-autonomy teaming.
Thales will also work closely with Singapore’s government and local ecosystem to build technology capabilities and ethical AI solutions that are transparent, explainable, and effective.
In a related development, Thales has extended its partnership with HTX to establish a joint lab dedicated to AI-driven technologies and local capability development. This lab will help turn early-stage technologies into practical solutions for homeland security programmes. A joint strategy and technology roadmap will be developed to support public safety and security innovations.
Thales has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Changi Airport Group, the International Centre for Aviation Innovation, SATS, and Singapore Airlines to boost innovation within the aviation sector. As part of this, a new Avionics Lab will be set up in Singapore, Thales’ first outside France, complementing the existing AIR Lab created with CAAS in 2019.
In addition, Thales and the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) have formed a joint lab focused on AI technologies to support the Singapore Armed Forces, starting with projects related to Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) and advanced sensors.
Thales plans to grow its AI team in Singapore to several dozen experts within the next three years, adding to its global cortAIx network of 800 AI and data specialists.
