The upcoming iPhone 17 Air is gaining attention with new rumours suggesting a major design shift. A leak from a reliable source has revealed a screen protector image that hints at the front-facing camera being placed on the left side of the Dynamic Island. This is a noticeable change from the usual right-side placement seen in recent models.
This leak has led to speculation that Apple is making internal changes to support its thinnest iPhone yet. Reports say the iPhone 17 Air could be just 5.5mm at its thinnest point. Other screen protectors for the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max still show the camera hole on the right, suggesting that the change is unique to the Air version.
While all four models in the iPhone 17 series are expected to feature upgraded 24 megapixel front cameras, this change in position appears to be more about the Air’s slim design than the hardware update itself.
Here’s what we know so far:
Design: The iPhone 17 Air is said to be one of the lightest and slimmest iPhones ever made, weighing around 146 grams. It is expected to come with a glass back, support MagSafe wireless charging and continue using Face ID for security.
Camera: The front camera is expected to be 24 megapixels, double the resolution of the iPhone 16 series. On the back, the iPhone 17 Air may have a single 48 megapixel camera to keep the design simple while still offering good photo quality.
Battery: Despite the slim body, the phone may include a 2,800mAh battery using advanced silicon-carbon technology. This could allow the phone to maintain strong battery life with better energy efficiency.
Performance: The iPhone 17 Air is likely to be powered by Apple’s A19 chip with 8GB of RAM, offering smooth performance and long-term software support.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September 2025, with the Air model possibly releasing a little later. There are also talks of a more affordable iPhone 17e version coming in early 2026.
