Donequa Sougrin has been named Deputy Chief of Talent Acquisition at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), continuing her remarkable journey in the world of recruitment leadership and talent development. With nearly 20 years of experience across public and private sectors, Donequa brings deep expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for inclusive hiring to one of the largest transit systems in the world.
Before stepping into this leadership position, she served as Senior Director of Talent Acquisition at MTA, where she played a vital role in driving large-scale hiring initiatives and optimizing recruitment processes. Her impact was evident in the refinement of strategic hiring models that support MTA’s expansive and evolving workforce.
Prior to joining MTA, Donequa made her mark at a leading technology company, where she held key positions including Leadership Recruiter for Specialized Tech and Privacy Engineering, and Recruiter for Public Policy and Communications. In these roles, she championed diversity hiring, built specialized pipelines, and facilitated executive-level recruitment across technically complex domains.
Earlier in her career, she was Director of Recruitment at a boutique talent firm, overseeing recruitment strategy and staff development. Her leadership extended to her time as Recruiting Manager at a major health staffing firm, where she guided large teams through change management and organizational shifts. She began her career at a well-known agency, where she developed her expertise in executive search and candidate engagement.
Academically, Donequa is equally accomplished. She holds a Master of Arts in Adult Learning and Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University.
Her well-rounded experience, cross-industry insight, and steadfast commitment to building inclusive workplaces position her as a dynamic force in shaping MTA’s future talent landscape.
