Hyderabad Cybercrime Police Bust Online Job Scam That Duped Woman of ₹8.75 Lakh

HYDERABAD: Cybercrime Police apprehended four individuals involved in a deceptive online job scheme that swindled a local woman out of more than `8.75 lakh. The suspects enticed the victim with a cyber fraudulent work-from-home opportunity, pretending to be representatives of a well-known company.

The individuals have been named as Manoj Diwakar, Nagiri Vijay, Sanapathi Kishore Babu, and Thirunagari Santosh Kumar.

As per cyber police reports, the victim filed a complaint on January 15, indicating that she was contacted on January 2 via Telegram by someone posing as an HR executive from “Accor Advantage Plus Marketing (India) Pvt. Ltd.” She was instructed to perform trial tasks related to hotel bookings and was promised substantial commissions. At first, she received minor returns after investing Rs 10,000, which helped build her trust. Motivated by the initial returns of Rs 1,000, Rs 17,800, and Rs 45,300, she gradually began to invest larger amounts.

The cyber fraudsters then presented high-value tasks like “GOLD SUIT BOOKINGS” and “Anniversary Special Offers,” fabricating fictitious “minus balances” in her account. In the end, the victim was convinced to deposit `7.91 lakh as a security fee to unlock a promised earning of `15.82 lakh, which never came to fruition.

A case has been filed under Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act along with various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. An investigation is currently in progress.
