Wishing Mr. Shane Barney greater responsibilities and exciting challenges in this impressive new chapter!
Keeper Security has appointed Shane Barney as its Chief Information Security Officer, bringing aboard a seasoned expert with deep roots in federal cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Shane’s extensive tenure includes six years as CISO at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, where he transformed the agency’s cyber defenses into a proactive shield.
With nearly eleven years at USCIS, Shane also served as Chief of the Cyber Intelligence Branch and Deputy CISO before his leadership role. His journey began as a federal security contractor with the same agency, building a rich background fortified by two master’s degrees and a bachelor’s from the University of Vermont.
Darren Guccione, CEO and co-founder of Keeper Security, expressed enthusiasm about Barney’s arrival: “Shane brings tremendous knowledge and demonstrated expertise in AI and cybersecurity to the Keeper team, further bolstering our internal investment in security, controls, and compliance. As the digital threat landscape becomes more pervasive, AI-enabled cybersecurity platforms will become essential. We are thrilled to have Barney with us as part of our AI strategy and extensive work in protecting digital borders against cyber threats.”
Shane himself shared his vision, stating, “As the new CISO at Keeper Security, I am excited to lead our efforts in enhancing cybersecurity strategies and protecting our clients’ critical data. I look forward to driving innovation, strengthening our security posture, and fostering a culture of vigilance and resilience across our organization, ensuring we remain at the forefront of building defenses against emerging threats.”
Renowned for his public sector advocacy in cybersecurity, Barney frequently engages in thought leadership, contributing to global security dialogues through interviews, keynote speeches, and media appearances. His exceptional work at USCIS earned him the prestigious Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Meritorious Service Silver Medal Award in 2023, recognizing his role in shifting the agency’s cyber approach from reactive to proactive. Notably, his focus on security automation saved $17 million in labor costs within a year, a feat applauded by the DHS. Further, Shane was named an H2O AI Top 100 AI Thought Leader in 2024.
Keeper Security’s appointment of Shane Barney signals a strong commitment to evolving its cybersecurity defenses amid an increasingly complex threat environment, leveraging AI and deep expertise to safeguard digital realms.
