Fractal Analytics Proposes ₹150 Cr Medical AI Project to IndiaAI Mission

Fractal Analytics, which is preparing for an IPO, has proposed to the IndiaAI Mission the development of indigenous medical foundation models to enhance healthcare access, medical education, and clinical decision-making. Co-founder Srikanth Velamakanni indicated that the project is estimated to cost around Rs 150 crore. The proposal includes creating a diverse range of foundation models, from basic language models to specialized medical reasoning systems with multimodal capabilities, aimed at revolutionizing healthcare.

“The PG NEET test is taken by 200,000 people every year. Indian doctors take it annually for their post-graduation in medicine. On that test, we scored 83, which is our benchmark. All the other open-source models we accessed scored much less than that. We launched Vaidya AI to elevate it to the next level by building India’s biggest breakthrough medical model,” Velamakanni Co-founder of Fractal Analytics said.

The Mumbai-based firm has already created India’s first multimodal medical assistant, which surpassed advanced language models like GPT-40, Gemini, and Llama 3.2 on the PG NEET benchmark. Vaidya.ai, trained on over 650,000 images and 200,000 text samples, is adept at processing multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu.

Fractal’s proposal highlights that multimodal reasoning systems can identify symptom patterns, improving diagnostic evaluations by analyzing and verifying data from X-rays and CT scans. These systems work by correlating signals from various data collection methods, such as linking subtle features of lung nodules seen in CT scans with changes in respiratory data from wearable devices and information recorded in clinical documents.
