Kashmiri Student Loses ₹4.3 Lakh in Online Task Scam via WhatsApp and Telegram

A 20-year-old engineering student from Jammu and Kashmir was scammed out of Rs 4.30 lakh by cyber criminals in a task fraud, according to city police on Wednesday. 

The student, residing in a college hostel in Matunga, received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number where the sender claimed to be Pallavi Jha. She proposed a task that promised earnings of Rs 2,000 to 8,000 daily for posting online reviews. 

After accepting the offer, he was added to a Telegram channel and initially received payments for completing tasks. However, he was later assigned larger tasks and asked to pay a security deposit, leading him to transfer a total of Rs 4.30 lakh over time. 

When the requests for money continued, he realized he had been deceived and reported the incident to Matunga Police. An investigation is currently ongoing, the official stated.
