Marketing, sales, and advertising departments in India are apparently going to be impacted by upcoming layoffs. The company’s Hyderabad and Bengaluru headquarters may view restructuring as a component of a larger worldwide employment cut, according to a Business Standard story citing people familiar with the situation.
Google layoffs: Teams likely to be impacted
Although it has not formally disclosed the precise number of layoffs, sources indicate that workers in marketing, sales, and advertising positions may be among those affected. The action comes after Google recently decided to lay off hundreds of employees in its Platforms and Devices business, which is in charge of the Chrome browser, Android, and Pixel handsets.
Google’s restructuring strategy
Google’s continuous attempts to cut expenses and streamline operations include the layoffs. The company’s Platforms and Devices teams amalgamated earlier this year, which resulted in employment cutbacks and voluntary leave programs. Google is concentrating on becoming “more nimble and operating more effectively,” according to a Google representative.
In the upcoming weeks, Indian workers in the impacted teams may experience uncertainty as Google continues its reorganization.
Google cuts jobs across Platforms and Devices unit
According to reports, Google fired hundreds of workers last week from a variety of departments, including those developing the Chrome browser, Pixel smartphones, and Android software. The corporation offered voluntary buyout offers to workers in these units earlier in January, which prompted the job layoffs, according to The Information, which quoted a source with knowledge of the situation.
In a response to the magazine, a Google representative verified the action.
“Since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January,” the spokesperson said.
