Google enhanced its AI-powered search experience, AI Mode, by integrating multimodal capabilities of its Lens technology

Since introducing AI Mode to Google One AI Premium members, early adopters have given us very favorable comments on its clear interface, quick response time, and capacity to comprehend intricate and subtle queries. Google’s AI Mode inquiries are often twice as lengthy as regular search queries. In addition to more complex activities like comparing two goods, looking up how-tos, and making travel plans, people are utilizing AI Mode to assist them with exploratory and open-ended queries.

We’ve begun making AI Mode available to millions more Labs users in the United States as a result of this excellent feedback. You can test it out by registering in Labs right now. Additionally, we’re working to enhance the experience, and now we’re introducing Lens’ potent multimodal capabilities to AI.

Search what you see in AI Mode

You may take a picture or upload an image, ask a question about it, and receive a rich, thorough response with connections to further explore it thanks to AI Mode’s new multimodal understanding. With this experience, you can ask sophisticated questions about what you see by combining Lens’s robust visual search features with a customized version of Gemini.

Our years of work on visual search are expanded upon and enhanced by AI Mode. AI Mode can comprehend the full picture in an image thanks to Gemini’s multimodal capabilities, which include the context of how items connect to one another as well as their distinct materials, colors, forms, and arrangements. Lens accurately recognizes every object in the picture by utilizing our in-depth knowledge of visual search. In order to obtain a wider range of information than a standard Google search, AI Mode then asks many questions concerning the image as a whole and the objects inside it using our query fan-out approach. You proceed after receiving a very detailed and contextually relevant response.

In this instance, AI Mode recognizes the nuances in the image, accurately identifies every book on the shelf, and asks questions to find out more about the highly rated books and related suggestions. It lets you ask follow-up questions to focus your search and offers a list of suggested books with links to buy and learn more.

With input from lab users, we’re still testing and refining AI Mode. To test out this new feature in AI Mode in the Google app (iOS and Android), sign up in Labs right now. Then, tell us what you think.
