Samsung prepares mid-December launch of its Intelligent Eyewear

Samsung is preparing to enter the AI-powered eyewear market, with its first smart glasses expected to reach consumers in South Korea and the US by mid-December. The initial rollout will be limited to these 2 markets, while the company evaluates demand before considering expansion to other regions.

According to a report, Samsung Electronics has finalised its launch plans for the glasses, reportedly named Intelligent Eyewear. The retail price has not yet been confirmed and remains under discussion. Japan, China and European markets will not be included in the first phase.

An electronics industry official reportedly stated that Samsung intends to assess initial sales and user feedback before expanding availability. The strategy is similar to the company’s Galaxy XR headset launch, which first became available in South Korea and the US before reaching additional markets.

Samsung Intelligent Eyewear: Features and specifications

The smart glasses will operate on Google’s Android XR platform and integrate Gemini AI. Built-in cameras and microphones will allow the device to recognise its surroundings and support features such as real-time translation and voice-based navigation, reducing the need to use a smartphone for these tasks.

Users will also be able to capture documents and meeting scenes. The glasses can automatically organise the captured information in the Notes app on connected Galaxy smartphones.

The device is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chipset and deliver up to 9 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Samsung has showcased 4 models so far. The first 2 were presented at Google I/O in May, followed by 2 more at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London on October 22.

Samsung enters the smart glasses competition

With this launch, Samsung will compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. Its offering combines Google’s Gemini AI and Android XR platform, with designs developed in collaboration with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

However, Samsung has not yet announced the official pricing of its Intelligent Eyewear.
