India’s digital payments ecosystem reached a new milestone in October 2026, with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recording an average daily transaction value of ₹1,01,707 crore. This marked the first time the platform crossed the ₹1 lakh crore threshold in daily transaction value, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
In a post on X, NPCI shared the monthly figures and stated: “Empowering your financial transactions with easy, safe & instant money transfers through UPI. Time to stay #AlwaysForward.”
UPI also registered a record monthly transaction value of ₹31.53 lakh crore in October, processing 25.47 billion transactions during the month. This was higher than the ₹29.37 lakh crore recorded across 24.07 billion transactions in September.
The average daily transaction value increased from ₹97,913 crore in September to ₹1,01,707 crore in October. Daily transaction volume also rose from 802 million to 822 million during the same period.
On a year-on-year basis, UPI transaction volume grew 23%, while the total transaction value increased 16%, reflecting the continued expansion of digital payments across the country.
October’s performance coincided with the festive shopping season, when consumer spending on retail purchases, dining and online shopping typically increases. Higher festive activity is understood to have contributed to the rise in transactions, alongside regular digital payment usage.
The additional calendar day in October, which had 31 days compared with September’s 30, also contributed to the higher monthly totals. However, the increase in average daily transaction value and volume indicates that payment activity strengthened beyond the difference in the number of days.
October also marked the first time UPI’s monthly transaction value crossed ₹30 lakh crore. The previous monthly record stood at ₹29.9 lakh crore, registered in May 2026.
The latest figures underline UPI’s growing role in India’s digital payments ecosystem, with the platform setting new benchmarks in both transaction value and volume.
