Workflows across Google Workspace are getting a new AI layer as Anthropic has introduced Claude integration for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Paid users can now work with Claude alongside their files, allowing the assistant to read selected content and make changes without requiring them to switch between apps.
The integration is available in public beta for all paid Claude plans. Users can choose to review edits before applying them or allow it to make changes automatically.
It can work directly inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides through a new Google Workspace add-on. It opens in a sidebar next to the file and can work with the content users are viewing.
In Docs, Claude can correct sentences, change headings and suggest larger edits. In Sheets, it can create formulas, pivot tables, charts and new tabs, while also helping clean up or combine data. In Slides, it can create new slides using the presentation’s existing design and identify issues such as overlapping elements or difficult-to-read text.
Users can control how Claude applies changes. By default, the AI asks for approval before each edit, while an automatic option allows all changes to be applied without individual approval.
Claude can also create Google files from chat
Anthropic has also introduced beta connectors for Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. These allow users to work with Google files directly from a Claude conversation.
Users can paste a Google file link into a chat or ask it to create a new document, spreadsheet or presentation. Then opens the file alongside the conversation while retaining the user’s existing Google sharing permissions.
The Google Workspace integration is available in beta for all paid Claude plans. Users can install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace and open it through Extensions > Claude > Open Claude after opening a Google file.
The Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors must also be enabled if users want Claude to create or edit files directly from chat. Team and Enterprise users need an owner or primary owner to enable the connectors first.
