Apple’s next entry-level iPad could receive major performance and connectivity upgrades, with the company reportedly preparing the 12th-generation model for spring 2027.
References to the upcoming tablet were found in Apple’s code by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, according to a recent report. The details point to an A19 chipset, 8GB of RAM, the C1X modem and the N1 networking chip. Some of these specifications had already appeared in earlier reports.
The current iPad 11 uses the A16 chip, while the iPad 12 is expected to move to the A19. The newer processor supports Apple Intelligence, which could bring Apple’s AI and Siri features to the entry-level iPad. The current model does not support these features.
The new tablet is also expected to get 8GB of RAM, compared with 6GB on the iPad 11. The memory upgrade is reportedly required for Apple Intelligence, which needs at least 8GB of RAM.
The C1X modem could support sub-6GHz 5G while offering better efficiency than the Qualcomm modem used in the current iPad. The N1 chip could add Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread connectivity.
Apple’s code does not reportedly mention new colour options, although additional finishes remain possible. The company is not expected to launch a new low-cost iPad in 2026, with the iPad 12 currently tipped for spring 2027.
The current iPad starts at $449, roughly Rs. 43,100, in the US after a price increase in June 2026. The new model is expected to retain the same starting price.
Apple is also expected to refresh the iPad mini before the end of October. The new model could feature an A20 Pro chip, a new speaker system, a landscape front camera and an OLED display, with the screen expected to be its main upgrade.
The report also claims to have found official images of the upcoming Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini. The new HomePod mini is expected in black, blue, green, pink and white.
