Meta has expanded its AI wearables lineup in India with the launch of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, alongside the introduction of Meta VR Glasses globally. While there is no information on when the VR glasses will arrive in India, the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta Glasses are now available in the country.
The new glasses come in 3 frame styles: Wayfarer, Aviator and Zena. Globally, Meta offers 27 colour and lens combinations, including Black, Havana and seasonal options.
In India, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 starts at Rs. 44,300 for selected frame and lens combinations across the Aviator, Wayfarer and Zena styles. Transitions variants cost Rs. 50,100, while Polarised versions are priced at Rs. 46,500.
The Gen 3 starts Rs. 4,400 higher than the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, which launched in India at Rs. 39,900. The Gen 2 was available in Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner designs, with prices varying by frame and configuration.
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 vs Gen 2
Battery life is one of the key upgrades. The Gen 3 can deliver up to 9 hours on a single charge, compared with up to 8 hours on the Gen 2. Its charging case provides up to 50 additional hours, compared with 48 hours on the previous model.
Audio capture has also been improved. The Gen 3 uses a 6-microphone array that Meta says can reduce more than 90% of background noise. This is designed to improve calls and voice commands in noisy or windy conditions. The Gen 2 uses a 5-microphone system with noise-reduction optimisation.
The new model also adds a customisable action button for quicker access to Meta AI. Meta is preparing Dolby Atmos capture support, which will allow users to record videos with spatial audio. This feature is expected later this year.
Overall, the Gen 3 focuses on battery and audio improvements, along with design and frame options. For existing Gen 2 users, the changes may not be substantial. New buyers, however, get the newer design and hardware refinements for a Rs. 4,400 premium.
