Ageas Federal Life Insurance has appointed Sunil Nishankar as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Data Protection Officer (DPO), bringing both cybersecurity and data protection responsibilities under a single leadership role.
Nishankar announced the appointment through a LinkedIn post, sharing that he has started his new position with the insurance company.
As CISO, Nishankar will lead the organisation’s information security function, with a focus on protecting digital systems and information assets, addressing cybersecurity risks and supporting broader security requirements.
Alongside this, he will serve as Data Protection Officer, overseeing data protection and privacy responsibilities. The role includes supporting appropriate governance around the handling of personal and sensitive information.
The combined mandate brings together 2 closely connected areas of digital and information governance. It places cybersecurity, data protection and privacy under a unified leadership function at Ageas Federal Life Insurance.
The appointment comes as insurance businesses increasingly depend on digital platforms and technology-enabled processes. With the sector handling significant amounts of customer and financial information, information security, privacy and data governance remain important organisational priorities.
At Ageas Federal Life Insurance, Nishankar will therefore oversee responsibilities spanning both cybersecurity and data protection. His role covers the protection of information assets as well as the governance of sensitive and personal data.
Nishankar’s announcement did not include additional details about his immediate priorities or specific initiatives in the new role.
With this appointment, he takes on a dual leadership mandate covering the company’s information security and data protection functions.
