A new technology hub focused on artificial intelligence and robotics has begun operations at Dehradun’s IT Park, bringing specialised AI roles and advanced technology work to Uttarakhand.
Digital Divide Data (DDD), a global provider of AI and data services, has started operations at its Global Capability Centre (GCC), which is the first of its kind in Dehradun. The centre will focus on robotics, physical AI and generative AI data services.
The facility currently has nearly 150 employees and is expected to expand its workforce to 800-1,000 employees in the coming months. This would make it one of Uttarakhand’s largest concentrations of specialist AI roles and create more high-end technology employment opportunities in a state where such roles have historically been limited.
“There is abundant technical talent in this region, with the potential to create meaningful technology careers for people in Uttarakhand. The Dehradun centre will support specialised work in physical AI and robotics, including the collection and annotation of egocentric video, sensor and multimodal datasets that help machine-learning systems understand and operate in real-world environments,” said Steve Larson, chief operating officer, Digital Divide Data.
Larson added that India has become a critical centre of gravity for enterprise AI, with recruitment for the Dehradun centre continuing across Uttarakhand.
DDD currently focuses on providing datasets to global clients, mainly for task-driven applications in sectors such as manufacturing and hospitality. The management said the technology could also be used, if required, for disaster management, capacity building and infrastructure development in Uttarakhand.
Addressing concerns around AI replacing human jobs, Larson said, “AI taking over human jobs is not the right interpretation. Human efforts will always be required to develop AI. The need is to upskill the workforce to include AI and robotics.”
