Life aboard the International Space Station remained focused on science, maintenance and preparations for the next cargo mission as the Expedition 75 crew worked through a busy Thursday.

NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot spent much of the day in the Quest airlock, storing tools and tethers used during their September 1 spacewalk. Meir later worked with NASA flight engineer Jack Hathaway on an eye examination that captured images of her retina, cornea and lens while researchers on Earth monitored the procedure.

Adenot also conducted a human-health study using the EasyMotion-2 suit. The suit delivered electrical impulses to her muscles, allowing her to measure contractions that could potentially complement exercise in microgravity. Such biomedical research helps doctors track astronaut health during long-duration missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond.

Hathaway also handled cargo transfers involving Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus XL spacecraft, which is attached to the Unity module. He cleaned the Mochii miniature electron microscope and the MUSES high-resolution hyperspectral Earth-imaging system.

NASA astronaut Anil Menon worked in the Kibo laboratory, removing Earth-observation equipment installed outside the station. The gear had been used to demonstrate streaming ultra-high-resolution hyperspectral imagery and study atmospheric dynamics.

Meanwhile, Roscosmos flight engineer Pyotr Dubrov prepared the Progress 94 resupply spacecraft by loading trash and obsolete equipment ahead of its September 7 departure from the Poisk module.

Progress 94 is scheduled to be replaced by Progress 96, which is due to launch from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on September 9 and dock with the station 2 days later.

Roscosmos astronauts Anna Kikina and Andrey Fedyaev also worked together to install Earth-observation equipment designed to automatically photograph landmarks during the crew’s sleep period. Kikina continued cardiovascular research by measuring her blood pressure using arm, wrist and finger cuffs, while Fedyaev transferred fluids into Progress 94, inspected laptops and tested camera sensors.
