AMFI appoints Vishal Rathod as Chief Technology Officer

The Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) has appointed Vishal Rathod as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO), bringing an experienced financial-services technology leader into a role that will oversee the industry body’s technology strategy, digital transformation and information-security initiatives.

Mr Rathod’s appointment comes as technology becomes increasingly central to India’s financial-services ecosystem, with mutual fund platforms and industry bodies managing growing volumes of digital interactions, data and investor-facing services.

Mr Rathod brings close to two decades of experience across IT leadership, banking technology, digital transformation, cloud, infrastructure and information security.

Before joining AMFI, he served as Assistant Vice President – IT at Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Limited (Arcil), where he worked on technology initiatives within the financial-services and NBFC environment.

Earlier, he held Chief Information Officer positions at NKGSB Bank and SICOM Limited. His experience across these organisations includes technology operations, digital transformation, infrastructure, cloud initiatives, information security, regulatory compliance and technology strategy.

His earlier career also includes roles at Fintellix Solutions, Essar, Mphasis, HCL Global Systems and vendorfrog.com, giving him exposure to enterprise technology, financial technology and IT programme management.

In his new role, he will focus on technology strategy and digital transformation while supporting IT governance, information security, infrastructure and technology initiatives across AMFI and the wider mutual fund ecosystem.

The appointment comes as the mutual fund industry continues to scale its digital infrastructure and investor services. AMFI serves as the industry body representing asset management companies in India and plays a role in industry standards, investor awareness, distributor-related services and the publication of mutual fund industry information.

For the technology function, this creates a broad mandate that extends beyond internal IT operations. The ability to maintain secure systems, strengthen digital capabilities and support reliable access to industry information is increasingly important as financial services become more technology-led.

Mr Rathod takes charge at a time when India’s mutual fund industry has expanded significantly in both scale and digital reach. The sector serves a large and increasingly technology-dependent investor base, making technology governance, cybersecurity and resilient infrastructure important components of the ecosystem.

His background in banking, NBFCs and financial technology provides relevant experience for navigating these requirements. He has previously worked across areas ranging from cloud migration and application modernisation to information security, infrastructure and regulatory technology compliance.

Mr Rathod’s appointment represents a technology leadership move for AMFI as it continues to strengthen its digital capabilities and support the evolving requirements of India’s mutual fund industry.

With experience spanning financial services, enterprise IT and digital transformation, he will now lead AMFI’s technology agenda as the industry continues its transition towards more connected, secure and digitally enabled services.
