OnePlus appears to be preparing a significant screen upgrade for its next flagship smartphone. The OnePlus 16, expected to launch later this year as the successor to the 15, is tipped to feature BOE’s new X4 light-emitting material and slimmer bezels around the display.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, It has worked with BOE to customise the X4 material for the OnePlus 16. The new material is expected to improve power efficiency compared with the X3 material used in the OnePlus 15. It could also offer up to double the lifespan of the previous-generation display material.

The upcoming phone is tipped to use a flat display with thinner bezels on all 4 sides. The tipster claims internal testing shows the X4 panel performing better than Samsung’s M-series luminescent material “in almost all aspects”. The new display is also expected to support several additional features.

The OnePlus 16 could feature an 185Hz refresh rate and run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. The 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant is tipped to cost CNY 4,999, roughly Rs. 71,000.

For comparison, the OnePlus 15 was launched in China in October last year with a 6.78-inch QHD+ AMOLED display. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5x Ultra+ RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

The OnePlus 15 also features 3 rear 50-megapixel cameras and a 32-megapixel selfie camera. It packs a 7,300mAh battery with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.
