Rural development in Dharwad district is set to receive a boost after Canara Bank allocated Rs. 10 lakh under its village adoption scheme. Deputy commissioner Snehal R received the cheque on Saturday and appreciated the bank’s focus on education, drinking water, healthcare, sports and public infrastructure.
Canara Bank deputy general manager (Hubballi-Dharwad) Rajeev Kumar Pandey said the village was selected in consultation with the district administration. The Rs. 10 lakh fund will be used according to local needs.
Planned projects include improvements to school infrastructure, including libraries, desks, furniture and computer equipment. A toilet for girl students will also be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 lakh. Drinking water facilities, including storage tanks and purification units, are also planned.
The development work will further include a community hall, sports facilities, an open gym and a bus shelter to improve village amenities and support public welfare.
Separately, 264 SC and ST girl students in Dharwad district received Rs. 10.5 lakh directly into their bank accounts under the Canara Vidya Jyothi Scholarship Scheme. Students in Classes 5-7 received Rs. 3,000 each, while those in Classes 8-10 received Rs. 5,000 each.
The scholarship is aimed at supporting the education of girls from economically disadvantaged families.
